Late 2009, I had a major transformation after I got a drastic change in hairstyle. One random day, I took the plunge and stepped into the salon and asked the stylist to give me a full fringe. I chose to go to Aveda, a reputable salon, and not the usual cheapo local salon I go to. I wanted to make sure I was in the best hands with this big decision. I remember how there was a full second pause before he actually cut it, as if giving me more time to savor the moment before what could either be cool or doom. The result?

I got mixed reviews from friends and family but I'd say it was mostly positive. Although my dad tells me to never get a cut like that again.

Towards the end of last year, I was toying with the idea of getting another "makeover" but I'm never the adventurous type to begin with. I had been wanting to get soft waves but would always chicken out. I had also always loved layered look but never really got to achieve it no matter which salon I went to because my hair is "too straight". I also thought maybe I'd look nice with a bob when that was the in thing but of course that didn't happen either. The new year celebrations are way over and I still have not made the trip to the salon. I've decided I'm keeping my hair long but it definitely needs updating. I did a quick google on this year's haircuts and ended up seeing this article on top hairstyles for 2011.

Aside from it obviously being Christmas Eve, December 24, 2010 will also mark my 3 months here in Singapore - 3 months of adventure and independence.

I realized I failed to blog about my relocating (anything about it actually). There was just too much going on in the weeks leading to the move and following it that I had no time to document it in words. There are many pictures and videos capturing it though, believe me.

Since moving to the lion city, countless number of people have asked me how I am liking the place so far, how it is like to be living alone, am I eating properly, are people nice, etc etc. I'm happy to report that with every reply, I find myself sporting a smile. Yes, it has been good. Of course I miss my family and friends, the comfort of being at home where you don't have to worry about what your next dinner will be, whether you have any clean clothes left, etc. But all that is part of the experience, part of why I said yes to this big change, and part of why I continue to feel blessed and happy - it's all part of my 'growing up'.

Socrates' famed words could not be more true. Cliche, but to really live, one needs to take risks. It's funny how life throws you a curve ball one instant and a beautiful surprise in another. Truly, God does work in mysterious ways. A year ago, I would not have dreamed of being where I am today. Yes, I did play with the idea of moving to Singapore - a city that I once abhorred as a child because I felt it was always challenging Hong Kong, which I consider my home - but it was just a thought, I never really acted on it. Then, the unexpected surprise came. How could I say no.

Fifth Mountain

I am reading Paulo Coelho's Fifth Mountain right now. I picked it up the other day at the Book Fair that I happened to stumble upon while passing through the Suntec Convention Centre.

I love book fairs! I kind of go into a trance while browsing the numerous books - from fiction to lifestyle, even children's books!

Anyway, back to Coelho. I loved loved loved The Alchemist. His wonderful writing gave me the sort of confidence and re-assurance I needed. In this fourth book of his, he continues with the theme of destiny and both man and God's role in finding one's path. It is beautiful.

Goodbye 2010, Hello 2011

As the year comes to an end, and a new one approaches, I cannot help but be thankful. I am ready for another year of ups and downs. The passing of time thrills and scares me at the same time but that is what should drive us to move forward. It's no good to just sit back. There is SO MUCH to see and do, how can anyone be 'bored'? A colleague here once told me soon after I just moved, "Your experience here is what you make of it. It's up to you if you enjoy it here or not". Indeed.

Located in Little India, Wanderlust Hotel houses only 29 rooms with individual themes and hues designed by various creative agencies in Singapore.

Room rates start at SGD 180++. If only I had the chance to check-in and try out their different rooms!

Regardless, the place is still definitely worth a visit - if only for the 'art' lobby!

I realize I haven't had an update in ages. So much has happened since my last post. One being that I now have a new home address and have been busy settling in and sprucing the place up (thus the pillow fascinations). But will try to write more on that in my next post.

Zumi Digital

The Zumi Digital is tiny heck of a digital wonder which takes stills and videos in that oh-so-dreamy vintage effect, much like what you'd get from a Polaroid or a Super 8.

I was never drawn to the Holga or the other similar camera whose name escapes me at the moment, but with the Zumi, i just fell in love! It's more because of the video aspect than the photos. I can easily (ahem) photoshop photographs, but videos are a little tougher to edit and to get that sort of effect, nice!

Unfortunately, it seems the only way to purchase the Zumi Digital is online through this website which I believe is based in Japan. I'm always hesitant to purchase anything online, except for flight tickets and from Kodakgallery.com. It costs around USD 170++ (USD 190 if you also want the 2GB mem card and battery) but if you add shipping then....ugh.

And another favorite Hollywood leading lady, Anne Hathaway. We're used to seeing her with her long gorgeous locks and it was, until recently, hard to imagine her in a shorter cut. But just this Sunday, Anne stepped out sporting her new pixie 'do.

While Emma chose to go edgy, Anne kept her soft waves and the length a bit longer. I think she still looks classic, still gorgeous no less!

Everyday, as I read through my copy of The Standard, updating myself with the current news and events, I always look forward to getting to the pages toward the end: the travel section under the business directory.

Eventhough it's the same old places that gets shown there everyday with the usual unbelievablely low fares, I love looking at and reading each destination (Bali, Koh Samui, Guilin, Phnom Penh, Milan, Paris, Nice, Athens...) and daydream.

I've always loved the idea of travelling and it will always be a dream of mine to travel the world. I love the whole experience of visiting some place new, unfamiliar and different. I love trying to absorb and learn about a particular place's culture, history and what makes it unique, etc. In the few places I've been to, I try not just to see what's out there but take in the smells and sounds as well, as if to fully live in the whole experience. There's always the negatives and the positives. And it's all part of the whole experience. The opportunity of being able to photograph whatever sights I see is something I am already grateful for and that gives me one of those simple "highs".

I love watching out for airline promos and don't mind budget airlines one bit. A few years ago, since I started working, I quietly told myself that I should make it a point to visit one new place every year. I wish it was more but you know the pains of budget constraints. So far, I've been able to accomplish just that: Singapore in 2006, Shanghai in 2007, Sydney and Brisbane in 2008, Cebu, Corregidor, Bataan and Bangkok in 2009. Though I have been blessed for being able to go on awesome beach trips in the Philippines ( Cebu again, Subic and Batangas) this year, so far, I haven't been able to visit my new place. But I'm not too worried, for I've got an even greater adventure awaiting me. And I see it as just another step to reaching all the new destinations that I've only been dreaming of so far.

You know how I love Emma Watson, she's got a smart head over her shoulders plus a pretty face and healthy locks.

A few days ago, she surprised most everyone when she cut off her hair and opted for a new pixie cut!

I think she rocks it. She definitely looks more mature and edgier but I think it's a good change. Would you do the same, if not already? I don't think I could, at least not until something drastic happens in my life and I feel the need for a major make-over!

Random Yellow

Today I got myself a new pair of sneakers :)

A pair of yellow Vans Off The Wall sneakers.

I'm actually not a sneakers sort of person. I have nothing against sneakers but I'm not the sporty type at all and it just makes me feel awkward. But then, maybe it's just because I have big feet. Whatever. I actually sort of envy other girls who are able to carry off wearing sneakers. They actually look good. But I'm quite a girly-girl in my choice of footwear and I usually go for nice pumps or peep toes, pretty ballet flats or cute sandals and of course, the all-time comfy flip-flops.

I own only one pair of rubber shoes and it's about 5 or 6 years old. I hardly use them.

The last time I owned a pair of sneakers I think I was in high school or maybe first year college. That's a good 9-10 years ago.

So you see, I'm the last person you would imagine to go out and buy a pair of sneakers. So, why you may ask, did I do just that today? Believe it or not, there's a weird story behind it.

One day while commuting in the MTR, I had this really weird urge of wanting yellow Lacoste sneakers. I have no clue where that thought came from as I hadn't seen any such sneakers in recent memory. But, imagine my surprise, when after a few minutes of walking, as I was standing in line, I saw right in front of me a girl wearing... yellow Lacoste sneakers! Freaky or what? Haha.

So a few days later, I chanced upon a sports store and saw a pair of yellow Lacoste sneakers. Exactly what I had in mind. It was a bit pricey though and I felt getting them was a bit silly if I based it all on a random thought.

However, even after a few weeks, I still kept thinking about those bright colored sneakers. So today, I finally went back to the sports store only to discover that the yellow Lacoste sneakers were sold out. There were only red and blue left and they didn't appeal to me at all. But glad I saw these Vans ones and I was hooked. They're a few hundred dollars cheaper too so gooo! :)

I think they actually look quite cute. I don't feel as awkward in sneakers anymore. Maybe because they're yellow? Or maybe that random thought just converted me.

I love my new sneakers!:)

Drex Fable

While walking through Admiralty Centre yesterday, I came upon this little boutique, so small it's easy to miss. I'm glad I went in. The store is called drex fable and their clothes are beautiful!

Not your usual, conventional designs, they sport clothes in warm tones of maroon, beige and black and grays mostly in silk and satin fabrics. The cut and construction of the clothes were different, modern and chic.

They were having a sale at the moment with dresses reduced to prices of around HK$ 400-800 which is not too bad for the unique pieces. They are somewhat similar to Initial, another HK brand, which I also like. Though I think Initial is a bit darker.

After googling them back in the office, I discovered they had a website and a blog too!Unfortunately, the blog is in chinese so I just oggled at the pictures :)

The brand was established in 2000 and the name is a play with the words "Dress Fable". Here are some pictures showcasing their current collection called "Spring Blossom" which I grabbed online. Though I wish I could take pictures of the individual pieces:

Also found out they also have shops in Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kwai Fong, Shatin and Tuen Mun. Will definitely go back and check it out some more.

I'll be the first to not call myself patriotic but I also will say that I am a proud & happy Filipina. True, there are ~~certain~~ a lot of things that needs changing/improving/rehauling. But there's also no denying the fact, that there is no shortage of talent in our country. It's in the blood! I know that if only we could ~~do away with all the dirty politicians and~~ really put our smarts into action, change is possible. And this year, especially, after the relatively peaceful presidential elections, there is a new, revived hope for the nation. Together, we can all help build a better Philippines :)

If you're particularly feeling the love and want to show it, head on over to Team Manila, a lifestyle brand selling clothing and other accessories. It operates under the graphic design group of the same name. Since learning about the brand, I've been in love. It is so inspiring to see a group of talented individuals come together to create and deliver nationalistic designs and elements of pinoy pop culture in their merchandise which are modern, hip and cool.
One of the first items I wanted to get were the passport holders, unfortunately they were sold out by the time I asked H to check them for me.
I was glad when I was able to visit their store in Mall of Asia last May. I was so giddy I wanted to buy all the shirts there. And mind you, I'm not a t-shirt person at that. Finally, I picked up for myself a "New MLA" T-shirt and a Rizal clock.

Just checked out their online shop now and they have the cutest items ever!

Haven't been taking any pictures lately. Lack of motivation? Or just too busy? Or both? I've freed up some time now for the next couple of months but then have also got loads of new other stuff I have to do.

Want to make the most out of the next few months as I embark on a new adventure soon. Will try to go around HK more, be a bit more "tourist-y" and hand in hand with that is taking more pictures, be with family and friends more, take more pictures of them, and just trying to soak up and live and being thankful for all God's blessings.

A giant sinkhole forms in the city center of Guatemala swallowing a building and a nearby house. The sinkhole was caused by the rains of Tropical Storm Agatha which tore through the city on May 31, 2010.

Thank God no one died because of the sinkhole but our prayers go out to those who were affected because of the storm.

One can't help but think the worst during these times. What with Volcano Pacaya recently erupting, not to mention Volcano wachamacallit in Iceland, the oil spills in the gulf (man made disaster though), the melting ice caps, the earthquakes and storms all over the globe...Mother Nature is obviously telling us something. God help us!

Today I learned... about "a new concept store & café at 1881 Heritage" in Tsim Sha Tsui called "brother & sister". The new establishment is the brainchild of, get this, brother and sister Gilbert Yeung (founder of dragon-I)and Cindy Yeung (Emperor Group Director).

The unique (to hong kong) store "combines Emperor's jewellery and watches, with a bar cum café, and a fashion boutique. The concept café offers a range of comfort food and morphs into a cocktail bar at night.
The shop stocks garments from Hong Kong based brand Cipher, Dolce & Gabbana, Greedy Genius and Android Homme as well as limited edition cross over brands such as Alexander McQueen for Puma. You'll also find sunglasses from Nathan Jenden as well as vintage pieces from Guy Laroche.

On top of the clothing the likes of Aesop skin car are also available, along with Cowshed bath and body products, Dosh unisex wallets and DL & Co. candles."

I’m starting a series which I call “Today I learned…” where I basically will talk about some random, interesting thing I learned of or discovered that day, which I'm guessing would most likely be about anything fashion related...Always good to learn something new everyday!

Today I learned… about Hussein Chalayan. A renowned Turkish designer, Chalayan is recognized the world over for his ingenious exercise of combining fashion and technology. I’m ashamed that I’d never heard of him until today but I’m sure I’ve come across some of his works before in magazines. His creations are way ahead of his time and it’s just amazing to see such artistic talent.

Chalayan was born in Nicosia, Turkey in 1970 and he studied design at Central Saint Martins where he graduated in 1993. He struggled earlier in his career with sponsorship and funding but slowly his work became more recognized and in 'British Designer of the Year' in 1999 and 2000.

Among his more famous pieces of work are the “series of laser LED dresses [he designed] in collaboration with luxury label Swarovski, showcased in Tokyo” in early 2008.

But I think the most creative, out-of-this-world things he’s done are the airplane dresses and the furniture dresses!

S/S 2000 “Airplane Dress” – Chalayan created dresses made out of the same material used in airplanes. The shape of the dress could be changed by remote control!

F/W 2000 – “After Words” - In the winter collection of the same year, Chalayan created a table dress – basically a table that turned into a skirt!

Now, how’s that for innovation!

What began in 1981 as a stall at the Mattar Road hawker centre is now three individually styled branches located at the central and western suburbs of Singapore.

Believe me when I say, absolutely everything we ate here was SO delicious!

We had spicy crab + yummy bread to be dipped in the curry sauce (forgot what it's called), ribs, their specialty fried rice and veggies (can't remember as well!)

Trust me, everything was good!

If you're going to be in Singapore any time soon, you must go. It's located in Esplanade Mall.

While I was in Singapore a few weeks back, I promised myself I would not do any personal shopping for different reasons. It was difficult to do, especially with so many different shops around. On regular occasions, while travelling, my rule of thumb is I'd only purchase something if I knew I wouldn't be able to get the same thing or similar to it in Hong Kong. That or if it was significantly cheaper. However, on this trip, I really stopped myself. Once in a while, I'd step into a few of the stores just to check out what items they had and sometimes I'd end up picking a top or dress or 2, only to put them back in the rack before stepping out of the store. There were a lot of pretty clothes that were affordable too. So while I did see a lot of lovely of items, there were none that I went completely crazy over.

While browsing at the Marina Square, one night, however, I stumbled into Desigual and I swear my heart skipped a beat.

I don't always get these blood-rushing-to-my heart-making-me-dizzy sort of feelings. I remember I had the same feeling first time I entered Zara years ago. And also, when I saw Ted Baker when it was still new. But yes, Desigual made me giddy. I was in love.

Their clothes were just beautiful. So unique. A touch of boho, ethnic and artsy fartsy too. But refreshing, feminine, fun. They had so many wonderful pieces, the prints were just gorgeous. I must've eyed each one for a good 10 seconds each. Dresses, skirts, tops, bags. Their clothing isn't my usual style but I would've gladly worn any one of them.

I had to ask one of the sales assistants where the brand was from and found out the brand is from Spain.

Found after a quick google: "Desigual is a streetwear brand based in Barcelona, Spain...The brand has been created in 1984 by Swiss national Thomas Meyer, founder and creative director that wanted to provide different clothes to people."

Desigual is already a household name in Europe and its logo is a familiar sight. Offering a directional range of men and women's casual wear, as well as and accessories, Desigual has something for everyone. It has a fun, positive and unconventional outlook on fashion. The first slogan for the brand was 'Desigual is not the same', and this continues to be the driving force behind the label over twenty years on"

You can't believe how tempted I was to buy even just one item. But there were too many good ones, I couldn't choose! It didn't help that they were quite pricey.

Apparently, there are a few branches in Singapore - one in Orchard Central and another in Vivo City.

It's been a while since my Singapore trip but I've still been dreaming about Desigual. I think I've decided I'll get a dress on my next Singapore trip, hopefully it's during the Singapore Sale too! :)

Singapore High

So I spent total of 6 days in Singapore but in reality only got to go around the city much less than that as I had to work for four of those days. On those days, however, I'd still go out after work to meet friends or simply explored the city on my own.

On Day 2 of my Singapore trip, silly me forgot to bring the camera. I met up with Arnold, H's friend. Because of him, I had my first Sing MRT ride! Yay! :) Not too different from our MRT in HK, except that they give refunds if you return your ticket. Nice. haha. From City Hall station, we got off at Orchard and had dinner at the Ion Orchard, one of the newest malls along orchard road. I love that Singapore is abundant with food courts. Yay to lots and lots of choices of cheap, yummy food! :)

For the 3rd night, I went on the Singapore Flyer...on my own! Yes, on my own. For those who don't know, the Singapore Flyer is a "giant observation wheel" which is actually more like a giant ferris wheel. It's actually 2 meters higher than the London Eye! I thought I was going to be alone in the capsule but good thing it was big enough to carry more than 10 people.

The view from the top was amazing. Eventhough I was getting dizzy as we reached the top - especially as the hyper kids who were also in the capsule kept on shouting "we're at the top! we're at the top" - I was glad I didn't back out of this "touristy-must-do" item on the list! :)

Been away too long. Could give number of excuses but i won't. Just been lazy or too tired. Period. But felt I needed to blog about this...my first business trip ever! Haha. So, how was the first day? So far, so good! :)

I'm actually still in Singapore at the moment. Flew in from Hong Kong Tuesday morning for a four-day business trip. Arrived at lunchtime, rushed to the hotel to settle my things and freshen up quickly before dashing off to work.

I'm checked in at the Park Hotel Clarke Quay, this new boutique hotel in Robertson Quay, which opened just last year.

I was surprised to find out I was reserved at the Club Floor rooms which "offer exclusivity for discerning business travellers." Oh yeaaaa. So not me. Haha. Must say, was very pleased with the "exclusive" and personalized service.

Room is lovely. I love the high ceiling and the stylish interior.

View is a looker too.

At the office, I got my own room (woohoo!), which i'm actually just borrowing from a senior colleague who's away on leave.

Was good to meet everyone at the office - especially those I was so used to speaking on the phone with or exchanging emails with but have never actually seen in person.

After work, I got a friendly ride back to the hotel from one of my colleagues. I changed to a smaller bag, took off my heels, wore flats and went down to explore. Had been starving most of the afternoon since I missed lunch so was keen to find a good place to have dinner.

First I checked out the "mall" right in front of the hotel, called UE Square, only to find it was practically empty. Next, I decided to check out Robertson Walk next to the hotel. I saw there were some chic eateries outside and wondered if there would be any cheap restos inside. Found the building quite interesting, the European inspired architecture was real posh.

So did i find any "cheap" resto there? As you could probably guess from the pictures, no. Its a nice date place though with the al fresco dining. Too bad it jut rained and well, i didn't have a date.

Moving on, i concluded I had to venture out a bit further if I wanted to find a cheap enough place. I remembered seeing some fast food restaurants in a building on the way to the hotel so trusted my direction instincts and just walked.

Thankfully, I found the place, which happened to be right beside the Somerset Hotel.

This was first resto I saw but wouldn't make sense for me to eat here eh. Hehe.

I went into the mall in the hopes of finding another restaurant. I saw McDonald's and Starbucks, no thanks. Wasn't sure which floor to go then finally decided to go to the basement level when i saw this cool escalator.

Finally, i saw a supermarket and there were food court type eateries at the side. Finally! There was choice of Japanese and other stuff can't remember now. Chose Jap when I saw picture of their "No. 1 Best Seller" - Fried Pork Cutlet Bowl. YUM!

Was so hungry by this time. Placed my order, paid SGD10 and sat down. I could hear my tummy growling already. Finally, my food came. BUT it looked so different from the picture. It literally took me 20 seconds looking at my food and back at the picture and back at my food again. Till I realized, they gave me the wrong order. I checked with the cashier who took my order and true enough there was a blunder. Instead of my pork cutlet rice, she gave me pork with ginger. Don't ask me how she misheard. Lost in translation. Anyway, I was too hungry to argue. It didn't look too bad anyway.

After that, I STILL felt hungry so I got some crepe at a kiosk nearby. YUM!

Just when everyone thought Spring had come with its nice warm weather and cool air, here comes three days of winter. yup, three. for some weird reason, temperatures have dropped this week to around 9-10 degrees Celsius between monday and wednesday. that makes it around 7 deg where i live. argh. by sunday, temperatures will be up in the 20s again.

can't believe i was just wearing a sleeveless shirt just a couple of days ago and now here i am wearing layers and layers of clothes again.

i've been dreaming of the beach since november! i.need.sun. few more weeks..few more weeks...

Every year, I look forward to catching the Academy Award show to see which films win, which actor gets to take home the trophy, to be entertained by the antics of the host(s) of the night and to be in awe at the sets and production numbers. But the one thing that really gets me giddy is the red carpet pre-show to see what everyone is wearing!

This year, celebs seemed to put on their best. Everyone was classy, glittery, sparkly and beautiful!

It's nice to see even the fashion world do their part in relief efforts for Haiti. On the second day of the Mercedez-Benz New York Fashion Week, super model Naomi Campbell put together a Fashion for Relief runway show, with some of the biggest names in modelling world plus other well known celebrities - including Chris Brown. Such a lovely, lively event!

I recently did a report on the LBD (little black dress) and this event had plenty of those! Love it!!

The models looked like they were having lots of fun. Naomi herself rocked the catwalk (love that roaring 20's dress!).The girl in the red dress and Tina Turner hair had a bit too much coffee to drink I guess. And she just wouldn't leave! Was too much for the next girl in a gorgeous yellow frock. Uh oh to the shoe adjusting! And Agyness, what happened to ya? :p

Good job, Naomi.

It was bittersweet though. The last seven outfits were from Alexander McQueen, with whom Naomi is/was friends with. It was a tribute to the late, great designer.

NEW YORK — Naomi Campbell brought an emotional end to the second day of New York Fashion Week on Friday with a runway show for the relief effort in Haiti, capped with a finale tribute to Alexander McQueen.

McQueen, who was found dead on Thursday in London, wasn't known to have many close friends in the fashion industry, but Campbell was in his inner circle. At the end of the runway show, she walked backstage with tears in her eyes.

The last seven outfits in Fashion for Relief were McQueen's, modeled by Campbell, Helena Christensen and Karen Elson, among others — all wearing impossibly high heels by the designer, including one pair of platforms that didn't actually have any heels.
Everything seen on the catwalk will be sold on the Net-a-Porter Web site, beginning March 15. The clothes, though, were secondary to celebrities like Chris Brown and Kelly Osbourne, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson and designers Donna Karan, Diane von Furstenberg and Georgina Chapman of Marchesa.

Models who rarely strut anymore, including Maggie Rizer and Agyness Deyn, strapped on their stilettos, too, with the audience cheering on Deyn when she fell twice wearing towering Burberry sandals.

But the crowd clearly came to see Campbell, who did not disappoint. The 39-year-old showed why she was once queen of the catwalk, making a short, black sequined flapper dress practically do its own dance.

At runway shows throughout the day, black was the color of choice. Three out of four editors in the front rows wore black — so don't let anyone tell you there's a new black.

Milan Fashion Week has been thrown into chaos after Anna Wintour, the editor of American Vogue and doyenne of the fashion world, said she would be attending only three days of the event.

Fashion houses are scurrying to ensure that their collections are seen by Miss Wintour, rather than relegated to the days either side of her fleeting visit.

Industry leaders believe the week should be compressed into a few days and scheduled around the main fashion houses.
The British-born magazine editor, whose fearsome reputation has earned her the nickname "Nuclear" Wintour, provided the inspiration for Meryl Streep's character in the film The Devil Wears Prada.

She has reportedly shortened her attendance because after Milan she has to travel to France for Paris Fashion Week and will then fly to Los Angeles for the Oscars on March 7.

Milan's world famous fashion festival lasts from Feb 24 until March 2. Now the most important haute couture houses are reorganising their shows to coincide with her visit, from Feb 26-28.

Her decision has left fashionistas in a panic and prompted accusations of arrogance.

"Anna Wintour, the woman who holds Italian fashion in the palm of her hand," ran a headline in Corriere della Sera, the country's most respected broadsheet.

"She wants designers to schedule their shows during these three days," said Mario Boselli, the president of the Italian Fashion Chamber.

He told The Daily Telegraph: "It has bad consequences for many, many people involved in the shows, from stylists to models to hairdressers. It's absolutely crazy.

"She's welcome in Milan but if she only comes for a fleeting visit, perhaps it would be better is she stayed at home."
Fashion houses such as Dolce and Gabbana, Prada, Fendi and Armani who were due to show their collections towards the end of Fashion Week now wanted to change dates, Mr Boselli said.

He said that Paris Fashion Week had resisted similar suggestions for the biggest fashion brands to be concentrated into a few days.

"They have a bit more spirit in Paris and they said no," said Mr Borselli. "The Italian fashion industry is the best in the world but, in contrast to the French, they don't seem to recognise their own worth."

I was utterly shocked and saddened this morning to hear of Alexander McQueen's passing. And a suicide too? To think, he's at the prime of his career, it's the start of New York Fashion Week where he's scheduled to release his second line, McQ, it's a few days away from London Fashion Week, which he's also a part of. And he's only 40! 40!

He's not exactly one of my favorite designers. But I do admire his eccentric sense of style. His clothes were always dramatically different, loud and somewhat outrageous. Boy, was he talented.

It's such a pity, really. I didn't know that his mother had also recently passed away till I was reading news about his death. Maybe it just got all too much for him :(

Whatever the reason, may you rest in peace, Alexander McQueen.

I'm greatful that most everyone I know is safe but I have friends and know people whose houses were flooded in, who were stranded and who's business were damaged. But at least everyone's okay.

Let's all help. If we can, through donations. But more especially, so many people need prayers right now.

Dear God, please continue looking out for those displaced..who've lost their homes..belongings and are looking for lost family and friends.

Few years ago, I read somewhere that if you were to choose a celebrity or icon to emulate in terms of fashion, go for someone who has similar characteristics as yourself, i.e. hair color, skin color, build, age. As much as I like Nicole Kidman (totally random) for example,it doesn’t exactly make sense for me to copy her style. And while I've never have been an immense fan of a particular celebrity, there are a few who's style I do appreciate. One of them is Rachel Bilson.

I never watched The O.C. Just didn’t feel drawn to it. Felt it was a bit too cheesy. Sorry, OC fans. Anyway, I never really cared for the actors in it who, because of the show’s popularity, were suddenly all over the media. I particulary didn’t like Mischa Barton. But I thought Rachel Bilson was ok.

It was only after the OC craze died down, and after watching Jumper, that I really took started liking her. Time and again I would see her featured in magazines commended for her choice of clothes. I love her casual, cool style. She always looks so put together but not too much – not like she spent hours and hours in front of the mirror. I also like that she's relatively low profile. She just always looks so comfortable and confident. She's effortlessly chic!

Okay so i'll be the first to admit I'm no Rachel Bilson look-alike. The similarity probably starts and ends with the hair color and that's it. Haha. And while I wouldn't call myself a fan, for some weird reason (and out of boredom), I found myself googling her today and guess what I found out..

She celebrates her birthday a day before mine! Hihi..Too cute, eh!

I know, I sound grumpy. haven't been having a good day. hasn't been good since yesterday. sigh.

I told my mom this morning, "I think the best job is one where you don't have to set you alarm (forcing you) to wake up in the morning. At least not everyday."

Trying to distract me from feeling bad, Harold told me to look up this lovely resort in Batangas that he wants us to go to someday.

It's Acuatico Resort in Laiya, Batangas. Situated by the beach, the resort also boasts of a beautiful infinity pool and warm, inviting accomodations.

Rooms are priced from P5,000 a night up. A bit pricey if you ask me. One can opt to just have a day tour which will cost around P1000+ per person inclusive of lunch.

I read the beach ain't a white beach but nice enough. Still worth checking out for sure :)

Ahh.. there's nothing like the thought of the beach and of traveling to make me smile :)

I'm no boxing fan but as with most Filipinos, the world stops to watch Manny Pacquaio during his fights.

Before this game against Ricky Hatton began, I didn't know what to feel: nervous, excited, scared, etc. Afterall, Hatton is a legend in his own right.

Unfortunately, H texted me the result before I got to watch the coverage (cheapo, didn't get Pay Per View this time) but somehow it didn't dampen my excitement.

We had to wait for hours but we didn't mind. It was all worth it in the end.

Btw, I really dislike Martin Nievera and can't believe he was chosen to sing. As expected, his rendition was OA (over-acting). Won't even bother to post a pic of him. Sorry, just can't stand him Never did. I like the shirt he was wearing though (Proud of Tito FrancisM )

Boom! When Hatton went down in the first round, it was crazyyy. Don't think anyone saw the coming. Maybe not even Manny.

But when he was knocked out in with one second left in the second round, I was speechless. We couldn't believe that was it. It was way too short. We even joked that Aling Dionisia - Manny's mom who never watches his fights and instead storms the heavens with her prayers - probably wasn't even half done with her Rosary when the fight ended. Hehe. Talk about a fast answered prayer!!

I was a bit scared for Hatton when he fell though. He was motionless. My mom even started crying. As in, real tears.

I hope he's okay. Glad he got to get up and walk back by himself.

Manny, what a great fight! You're a true champion. You make us Pinoys proud! :)

And probably, for most of us, the fantasy hasn’t turned into a reality (yet).
But for at least one person I know, he is now living his dreams.

His name is Raya Martin. And he has two films which made the cut in this year’s prestigious Cannes Film Festival. TWO!

I was classmates with Raya when we were in highschool. Though we weren’t really in the same clique, he was one of those people I got along with and enjoyed talked to.

Even at our then young, awkward teenage selves, he already displayed moments of brilliance in film making. In our fourth year, as part of our final requirements, we were tasked to create and produce an interpretation of the various poems by E.E. Cummings by class which would be presented to the whole batch. While the other sections decided to produce plays (predictable) our class (well, really just Raya) produced a short black & white almost silent-movie like film, which Raya directed, entitled conscientious object-or: The Reality of Olaf (based on the poem I Sing of Olaf Glad and Big). After the showing of the video, as per Raya’s instructions, the whole class (we were scattered around the auditorium) stood up and recited parts of the poem in a loud, thundering voice– which amazed and surprised everyone. The effect was chilling. Yet, as was expected, the head-dunking-in-the-toilet scene did not please the nuns in our school and so we did not win. He had a vision. I already knew then he was different; that he was on a different level from all the rest of us mortals.

Raya’s two films are "Manila", which Raya co-directed with Adolfo Alix Jr., and is one of six films with special screenings, and "Independencia" is under the Un Certain Regard category (a first in Philippines’ history!)

One other Filipino film also made the cut, “Kinatay” by Brilliante Mendoza (who I'm proud to say won Best Director!!).

Wedding blunder

This year, I know of 8 people who have gotten married or are getting married! EIGHT! Can someone tell me what is so special about this year? Or maybe, it’s just a sign that I am getting old(er) and am at the point in my life where people I know are at that age of getting married.

But of the 8, only a few of them are really special to me anyway. Others are just of acquaintances or (ex) colleagues. One special one in particular is/was Lanie’s Wedding on April 4 (4-4-09)!

When Lanie broke the new to us late last year that was tying the knot, we were all very excited and happy for her – albeit a bit concerned as she only had less than 6 months to prepare!

Regardless, we were ecstatic and even more so when she asked us – all five of her friends based in HK – to be her bridesmaids!

Yay !! The first wedding in our group and my first time as bridesmaid! Later on, Lanie also asked that H and my other friend’s boyfriend to be groomsmen so they would be our partners. Double YAY! (Yay! Yay! Haha). It would be the first time H and I would be attend a wedding together as partners.

Fast forward to night before the wedding…

Four of us flew in (on different flights and times) to Manila on Friday night and checked-in at a hotel close to her venue. As some of our flights were delayed (me included), we ended up sleeping at 3AM!

Finally, the big day! We all woke up early full of energy, even though we only had less than 5 hours of sleep. The wedding wasn’t until 4:30pm so we had plenty of time – or so we thought.

We enjoyed a slow, buffet breakfast, taking in the view and the fresh air. Aaah relaaakssss. It was going to be a good day :)

After a couple of hours, H picked us up at the hotel and we drove off to a salon in Alabang Town Center for our 12noon appointment to get our hair, makeup and nails done.

We were all so giddy and time seemed to pass ever so slowly.. until 3:30pm and two of the girls weren’t done yet! Looking back I can’t figure out why none of us stood up and just said “WE HAVE TO GO!”. It was only until the last girl was done at 4pm that the sense of urgency started to kick in. We still had to run back to the hotel to get dressed. By this time, it was already 4:15PM. Within 10 minutes, we were back in the car and driving off to the church. The 10 minute ride seemed forever and we were all panicking but still had managed to joke around “Let’s hope Lanie is late!”.

But as soon as we got there, we ran up towards the church and I saw it.. I couldn’t believe it but it was true.. I saw Lanie approaching the altar!!

WE WERE LATE!!! :(

It was terrible!! We all felt so bad and embarrassed. We couldn’t believe we didn’t make it in time thus missing our march and Lanie’s as well! And to think, we came all the way from HK! We could blame it different things or people but in the end, there’s just no acceptable excuse.

Side story..

It brought back memories of the last time – which was also our first time - Harold and I attended a wedding together. It was my sister’s wedding in 2006 and I was the MOH (Maid of Honor). Without going to lengthy detail, when my mom and I together with Harold stepped out of the rented villa, ready to go to the church, we discovered, to our horror, that all the cars were gone and everyone had left! Including my dad!! So hurriedly, my mom called my dad telling him to come back for us and pick us up. Instead of apologizing for forgetting us and saying “Be there right away!”, he says “Err..well..” which naturally angered my mom all the more. Haha. In the end, my dad did come back for us and when we got to the church we saw everyone else was waiting for us. Haha.

So Lanie’s wedding didn't exactly turn out the way we had planned it, but it was a great wedding nonetheless. Lanie, the sweet girl that she is, didn't even seem a bit annoyed that we were late. Or she was probably just too happy to fuss. Good thing she had 5 other bridesmaids (yes, total of 10), so it wasn't like she was left with none.

To talk on the wedding itself... It was beautiful. Lanie was beautiful! Her gown was real splendid and her train was super long! Venue was so dreamy too – as if we were in a fairytale. And the lights.. I love white lights! We were super proud and happy for Lanie – all her hard work and sleepless nights paid off!
Derrick, congratulations! We trust you'll take care of our Lanie :) oh wait, she's yours now. Aww.. haha.

LANIE, sorry again. We LOVE you!! We wish only the best for you! See you sooooon! :)

On May 9, Harold and I are attending another wedding, this time in Bataan. He’s going to be groomsman and I’m just his date. It’s another day to look forward to but please please I don’t want to be late AGAIN! Esp since I'm only flying to Manila that morning! Here's hoping for the best!! :)

In August 2007, I signed up at CafePress and uploaded some designs I randomly made for fun. The site is pretty cool. You get to sell different products - t-shirts, mugs, notebooks, magnets, etc - with your design on it without the hassle of actually producing the products themselves and more importantly, without having to shell out capital. You simply earn when you make a sale by the mark up price you determine yourself.

I was out of a job then so naturally I was thinking of various crazy stuff to do. One of which was putting together a charity event where I could sell T-shirts with the "I love.." theme - "I love to shop", "I love to read".. you get the idea. Anyway, the point was to encourage people, especially teens, to not be ashamed of being themselves, of being proud of what they enjoyed doing and not having to feel pressured to simply conform. Well, that was the idea. And then some time during all this daydreaming I stumbled onto CafePress and put my designs there.

I even made a logo.

I'd almost forgotten entirely about it till I got an email from them this morning saying I made a sale! :)

I was overjoyed!

Haha okay so it was only ONE item. And it took almost 18 months before I actually made a sale. But still, it made me feel a bit proud :) Haha.

Anyway, this just makes me want to design more stuff, to see where it goes. You never know, I might make another sale in a year or so. Hehe.

This made my blood boil!!

I got this yesterday in an email from a friend...It was written by CHEAP (Chip) Tsao and published in the HK Magazine sometime last week. There are few things that really make me tick, like sexists and RACISTS. Apparently, this isn't the first time he's caused such an uproar. A couple of years back he wrote an article which was offensive to Western men living in HK. I think racism of any kind, toward anyone, is intolerable. He may defend himself saying it's satirical or meant to be humorous but i think it's just plain rude.

A Bridal Luau

Last Saturday, my friends and I hosted a surprise Hawaiian-themed bridal shower for our dear friend Lanie who's getting married in two weeks :)

What a night it was! :)

We all came decked in colorful outfits complete with leis to set the mood. Of course, we couldn't let our bride-to-be end up as the odd one out so we dressed her up in a grass skirt, orange shirt with a hawaiian design and flower headpiece!

The night was packed with games, singing, laughing and of course the sexaaayy presents! :)

It was more fun than I think any of us could've expected...how we wished the night would not end!:)

Lanie, as you officially bid aloha to single-hood - the first among us to do so, we wish you the best in your upcoming married life. We now look forward to hosting your baby shower! haha :)

It took me a while to contemplate on what name to use for this blog. When my colleague found out I finally decided to use my whole name she was somewhat shocked - "How will you be able to pour your heart out?". She insisted that I instead use:

in my line of work i have to call a lot of people. once, this guy said he'd call me back and so i left my name and number. after a few hours, i receive a phone call to which the person on the other end says "hi, i'm looking for lasagna pls." what the! i knew he must've been referring to me which made be want to both laugh and shout "that's not my name!". still, i kindly replied "sorry, who?" and he repeated "i'm looking for lasagna pls." i coudn't take it anymore, "sorry, there's no one by that name here, this is lavinia, may i know who this is?" true enough, it was the guy i called earlier. when he realized (finally!) he got my name wrong he got a bit flustered and gave out a nervous laugh. hehe poor guy.

tada! :) here's my first blog in blogger :)

i already have a friendster, multiply & facebook account so i'm not sure what drove me to start a new personal online site. in all fairness, i'm not active on friendster anymore - haven't logged on in ages. i actually don't like facebook much (too many things going on!!) but just use it to keep in touch with people and with my multiply , i still love it and will continue to use it for posting photos.

so, this one will be used for pure blogging - duh - from the silly, nonsense stuff of everday life to maybe more serious stuff... haha :) here goes!
